details to fall for…

The crisp, cool air was so refreshing this weekend!  My wheels started turning as I began to imagine how to update interiors and prepare them for Fall.

Of course, after spending most my life in Tennessee, I know the leaves all around me will change into beautiful shades of golds and reds.  I know clothes will begin to get a little darker and a bit more layered.  And days will get surely get shorter as we snuggle up inside with something yummy and warm to drink.

So if we take our cues from nature, the most gorgeous and practical things in our homes are those we use often!

Grab an elegant silver tray or a casual woven one for those mugs of hot chocolate…

Splurge on a fabulous cashmere throw in your favorite color…

Add interest with a woven shade layered under your drapery panels, the natural texture will do wonders…

Or if you already have roman shades or woven woods, add elegant velvet drapery panels or chic, but more casual linen panels…

And the easiest fix of all, add new pillows!  Think about color and texture to achieve a smarter space.

And finally, snap a few dozen photos of your kids playing in the fall leaves,

if one is good…

Isn’t it funny when a friend notices an expression that you use often or a hand gesture that you make that you weren’t even aware of?!

via elle décor

This is definitely the case for me since I use lots of words, lots of gestures, and share lots of loud energetic ideas with my friends.

And since my goal is to include useful, fun, and creative ideas on the blog, I asked Scarlett, “What is something that we use a lot that we like?”

Luckily, we have a sort of verbal shorthand, so this made sense to her and she responded with “Layered rugs.”

“Aha!” I thought.  Great idea.

So here are a dozen examples of how to layer persian over seagrass or antique over dhurrie.

To be totally honest, when we mention this design element to some of our clients, we see a look of bewilderment…

But I promise, when done well, this looks timeless and chic.

It can really give a room a sense of age and sophistication.

What design element do you never tire of?

oh so romantic!

Unpacking boxes at the showroom today is a little bit of Christmas in May!

We are loving these gorgeous little, cut glass boxes.  They’d be perfect for holding all your baubles…

They each have a unique, beautiful, and charming French flair.

Old, ivory leather books and iron candlesticks balance the sweet look with a little bit of rustic charm.

But not too rustic…

After all, if we can’t have the famous, red-soled shoes, we’ll have the glossy pink book…

C’est bon!

yummy spring pillows at the shop!

at the shop tuesday: spring time!

yummy spring pillows at the shop!

The weather has been absolutely intoxicating lately in Nashville.  It’s had me daydreaming about adding a patio to our office!

A little sunshine inside the showroom...

Unfortunately, I don’t think the adjacent alley would make such a great backdrop for that patio, but inside the shop, we have brought out all the soft easter egg hues.

pink, aqua, and blue, oh my!

And we are simply loving the soft, pretty colors!

These hues feel young and fresh and current.

can you believe this comfy chair is stain and fade resistant sunbrella?!

I do love this weather and the clear blue sky.

What’s your favorite thing about spring time?!

PHOTO WARNING: I took these pictures, so please forgive the camera work!

Last week I had a fun day installing a new living and dining room for a client of mine that just bought a home in East Nashville.

It’s a second home, so she will keep her primary residence in tact, which gave us a clean slate to start.  The neutral gray paint was new and looked great, so we just needed to add some furniture, art, and a few accessories to make it feel like home.

The dining room when we arrived…

And a few hours later…

rustic, french-y chairs paired with a modern glass and metal table
more chair detail;  dark gray linen on distressed, carved frames

And living room before…

and after…

Don’t you just love this whimsical pillow?!

We included a couple great bargain finds for this project including dining and accent tables from as well as frames and accessories from Pier 1 and TjMaxx.

What’s your favorite place to find affordable treasures?
