shades of gray

A sweet friend of mine asked me recently to name a few of my favorite gray paint colors.  As I’m sure you all know, gray is HOT right now and has been popping up all over the design world for some time!

Almost every room needs a little weight to anchor the space and create contrast.

The “it” color changes every few years.  The color du jour was black a decade or so ago, (and black will always be “in!”)

Miles Redd

then it was chocolate brown…

David DeMattei & Patrick Wade

now it’s the very chic greige!

It’s everywhere!

And it seems to bring out the best in almost any color it’s placed next to.

I asked the girls at the office their “go to” gray paint color, and here they are!

Kendall: Benjamin Moore Kendall Charcoal

and Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter

Scarlett: Sherwin Williams Amazing Gray

Kelly: Benjamin Moore Texas Leather

and my favorite (this week, at least) is Sherwin Williams Gauntlet Gray

Be inspired!

And maybe this is one of those rare times that it’s ok to follow the trend;)

PHOTO WARNING: I took these pictures, so please forgive the camera work!

Last week I had a fun day installing a new living and dining room for a client of mine that just bought a home in East Nashville.

It’s a second home, so she will keep her primary residence in tact, which gave us a clean slate to start.  The neutral gray paint was new and looked great, so we just needed to add some furniture, art, and a few accessories to make it feel like home.

The dining room when we arrived…

And a few hours later…

rustic, french-y chairs paired with a modern glass and metal table
more chair detail;  dark gray linen on distressed, carved frames

And living room before…

and after…

Don’t you just love this whimsical pillow?!

We included a couple great bargain finds for this project including dining and accent tables from as well as frames and accessories from Pier 1 and TjMaxx.

What’s your favorite place to find affordable treasures?

so much to tell!

The past few months have been both exhilarating and challenging.  There are so many fun things to share with you!

I’ve had the chance to meet some fabulous kind new clients, and our business has been busier than ever.

As a result, about 6 months ago I realized I had to get a “real” office space to house my millions of catalogs, swatches, binders, client files, etc etc etc…not to mention all the furniture pieces I “had to have” that didn’t belong to a client yet.

Two dusty, dirty, hot warehouse spaces just weren’t cutting it.

So, it took me about 2 days to find a new studio space.  I’m very decisive, and my budget was very limited.  These two factors really helped speed things along.

However, that is where the speed stopped. Unfortunately, it’s taken me almost 6 months to get the owner to complete the build out of the space so we can move in.  It goes without saying I’ve learned alot during this process.  Each lesson has been fairly painful, but the whole experience has been a test of patience.

The good part is like most lessons that I’ve learned through difficult situations, these missteps will not be repeated.

I’ve realized that I must focus solely on the good stuff!  The simple fact that we will have a great new space to spread out all our resources and make beautiful designs has been the metaphorical light at the end of the tunnel.

We have finally started the move in process to the new office!

We are still waiting for final inspection to get internet and phone lines, but we are sooooo close to getting settled that I’m giddy.

I am blessed to have great people on my team helping out, Steve, Scarlett, Kelly, and Leslie.

During the same period of time, I have been working on a home for a dear friend of mine. It is a new home, and it will be included in the 2011 PARADE OF HOMES in the Brentwood subdivision Annandale.

So, MARK YOUR CALENDARS!!! And please make plans to attend.

The home tour runs everyday from Saturday, September 23 until Sunday, October 9th.

And to my amazing clients and friends that have been so patient and understanding durning all these transitions, THANK YOU!

(I thought I’d include photos from a client’s beach house in Naples, Florida. Because if I can’t take a vacation right now, I’ll just pretend;)
